San Diego, California – Sept 15th, 2011 – Michael Anderson, CEO and Founder of Radiant Technologies Inc., led a cloud computing discussion for business accountants and financial professionals as a part of the Institute of Management Accountant’s (IMA) San Diego chapter. Mr. Anderson defined cloud computing with hands-on examples of popular uses. He demonstrated using the cloud in the business world, and demonstrated how companies are moving forward with the new technology, especially with business applications. The meeting ended with a question and answer session that covered topics such as the total cost of ownership, security in the cloud, and software speed.
Michael Anderson defined cloud computing in simple language by saying, “When your central servers are in a public area invisible to you and you can access your system from anywhere, that’s cloud computing.” Comparing software, for example ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), to on-premise software with servers, cloud computing offers the opportunity to “pay as you go” with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), which lowers the total cost of ownership. Finance professionals are beginning to adopt cloud computing because of its capability to keep balance sheets clean of non-revenue generating assets, frees capital resources available toView Presentation invest in revenue generating assets, and a quick Return of Investment. Cloud computing also becomes a variable expense on income statements, which makes expenses more controllable and profitability much more manageable.“Software speed and security,” Michael Anderson explained, “is not an issue in the cloud.” Software speed does not change when switching to the cloud; it is the same as a company’s internet speed. In addition, hosting facilities are much more secure with temperature-controlled server rooms, flood and fire protected buildings, and in some cases even armed guards.
